ACE Single Title Paperbacks
01979 thru 09999
NOTE: By January of 1994, ACE Books had been taken over by Berkley. This marks the end of the ACE Letter-Number system for cataloguing. However, new titles simply started to use up the ACE Letter-Number series that had not been used. Thus, this is why from 00000 to 09999 there are numerous titles that do not conform to the old ACE Letter-Number procedure based upon the title.
Unfortunately, because of its size, we had to split this 5-digit number page into two parts.

| 02236 | -7 | Analog Yearbook II | Stanley Schmidt (Ed.) | Sci-Fi | 1981 | 1st ACE printing | Vincent DiFate | Short story collection from Analog. There were two printings using the same letter-number series. The one listed above is the published edition with a $2.50 price. ACE Books (and probably all of the other publishers) had what were called "promotional covers" that were sent to the bookstores (and booksellers). This allowed them to see what they would order, which is why the actual published book might have a different cover than the promotional covers. For this volume, there were not one but Two promotional covers for the same book! One promotional cover at $1.95, a second at $2.25 with the eventual released one at $2.50. All with the same artwork. Who knew that there was so much work on getting the cover art marketable. | ||||

||||||
| 02301 | -0 | Angle's Tear | Jane Blackmore | Gothic Romance | nd | c.1974; nd; 2nd ACE printing | This is also a bit odd. The cover art depicts a time mix-up (clothing is the clue) and thus is this a cross-over Gothic - Fantasy? Have to check more on this. Please note the cover art depiction on ACE 02284-7 is much more in the line of Gothic. | |||||
| 02320 | -7 | Annals of Klepsis | R. A. Lafferty | Sci-Fi | 1983 | 1st ACE printing and PBO | James Gurney | |||||
| 02320 | Masque World | Alexei Panshin | Sci-Fi | 1969 | 1st ACE printing | Kelly Freas | The 3rd Anthony Villers novel. Note that although this looks like it is out of seqeuence with the ACE numbering scheme and title, ACE Books considers the title of this series to be "Anthony Villiers: Masque World." | |||||
| 02332 | -0 | Annie Jordan | Mary Brinker Post | Historical Romance |
1981 | c.1948; 1981; | A bit of ACE weirdness here. Originally published by Doubleday in 1948. The ACE printing is listed as 1981, however the ACE logo on the cover was (s'posedly) discontinued in 1978. In addition, the price definitely is not what would be marked for a 1978 printing, but still seems too high for 1981.
| 02359 | -2 | Another Fine Myth | Robert Asprin | ACE fantasy | 1984 | Walter Velez | Another Fine Myth was originally published by Donning/Starblaze in 1978. | |||||

||||||
| 02592 | -7 | Appointment in Haiphong | Nick Carter (house pseudonym for David Hagberg) |
Spy Thriller | 1982 | 1st ACE printing - Charter imprint | George Gross
| 02595 | -1 | The Appraiser | Jack Mayfield | ACE Romance | 1981 | |||||||
| 02600 | April Lady | Georgette Heyer | ACE Romance | nd | c.1957; 1964; nd; 2nd ACE printing | April Lady was originally published as ACE K-201 (1964) with the same cover art. This is another example of the renumbering of old stock, but makes it difficult to define which is the true 2nd ACE printing. The only way is by the pricing: ACE 02600 was 50 cents whereas ACE 02601 was 75 cents. | ||||||
| 02601 | April Lady | Georgette Heyer | ACE Romance | nd | c.1957; 1964; nd; 3rd ACE printing | |||||||
| 02680 | April's Grave | Susan Howich | ACE Gothic Novel | nd | c.1969; nd; ACE Star edition | Note the white block for the ACE Letter-Number series. This suggests reuse of old stock. However, ACE 02680 does not have the white block for the letter-number series, although they both use the same cover art, so the question is which is the true 2nd edition. | ||||||
| 02681 | April's Grave | Susan Howich | ACE Gothic Novel | nd | c.1969; nd; ACE Star edition | |||||||
| 02891 | Arabella | Georgette Heyer | ACE Romance | nd | c.1967; nd; | Arabella was originally published as ACE H-023 (1967). | ||||||

nd | ||||||||
| 02900 | Arena | Historical Fiction |
1963 | 2nd ACE printing | Robert Maguire | Originally published as ACE G-520 (1963) with the same cover art. This appears to be another example of a re-numbered old stock.
| 02905 | -1 | The Architect of Sleep | Steven R. Boyett | ACE fantasy | 1986 | Jim Gurney | ||||||
| 02920 | -5 | Ariel: A Book of the Change | Steven R. Boyett | ACE fantasy | 1983 | 1st ACE printing | Barclay Shaw | This ACE Letter-Number series was reprinted in February 1984 with the same cover art and price. | ||||

This edition is an example of the re-use and renumbering of old stock. This is probably the 2nd ACE printing. |
|||||
| 02936 | Armageddon 2419 A. D. | Philip Francis Nowland | Sci-Fi | 1972 | c.1962; 1969; 1972; 3rd ACE printing | |||||||
| 02938 | Armageddon 2419 A. D. | Philip Francis Nowland | Sci-Fi | 1974 | c.1962; 1969; 1972; 1974; | These volumes are an example of the ACE editions that reprinted "Science Fiction From The Great Years." Both use the same cover art and seee the reuse of volumes with the block overprint for number and price on ACE 02938. | ||||||
| 02939 | -6 | Armageddon 2419 A. D. | Philip Francis Nowland | Sci-Fi | 1978 | c.1962; 1969; 1972; 1974; 1978; | Don Brautigan | Front cover by Don Brautigan and back cover by Dean Ellis listed as 'The Seminal "Buck Rogers" Novel.' “This edition has been specially revised and updated for the modern reader by noted science fiction critic and Hugo Award winning author, Spider Robinson.” is at the bottom of the first page, although he is not credited on the title or copyright page. |

Sci-Fi | 1978 | 1st ACE printing | Peter Dama | Conclusion of the Durdane Trilogy There is at least two more printings of this ACE Letter-Number series. The one I have been shown still retains the “Ace edition / December 1978” statement but the number line ends with ‘3’ and was published January 1988 per Locus. There is probably a 2nd printing (number line would have a '2') |
||||
| 03300 | The Atlantic Abomination | John Brunner | Sci-Fi | 1960 | Ed Emschwiller | The Atlantic Abomination was originally published in ACE Double D-465 (1960) bound with David Grinnell's The Martian Missile. It appears that ACE Books changed the spine code from a '020' lead-in to '441' in August '69 and ceased printing the small editions in '70. Thus this volume can be placed into that time interval. |
||||||
| 03301 | The Atlantic Abomination | John Brunner | Sci-Fi | 1976 | c.1960; 1976; | There is a second printing with the same ACE Letter-Number series that is from 1977. | ||||||

Nebula Award winning novel for 1966 (tied with Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon). This edition uses the same cover art, but the cover text is slightly rearranged from the ACE F-388 edition. This is probably the 2nd ACE printing. Probably one of my most favourite Delany tales, up there with Nova, Driftglass and Time Considered as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones. |

| 05104 | -9 | Battlestar Galactica 14: Surrender the Galactica! |
Glen A. Larson and Robert Thurston |
Sci-Fi | 1988 | 1st ACE printing and PBO | This is another TV tie-in noveliation. There appears to be a large number of these and I only have a few. This is the ONLY ACE Book publication in the 'Battlestar Galatica' universe (thus, a true PBO).
